Week 4 - Book of your Choice

This last week I'd like for you to post a few blogs about your favorite books. What made them great to you and why would you recommend them.

Week 3 - Dave Barry

Some possible topics for blogging using Dave Barry's essay "Beauty and the Beast" on pg 368:

Do you find yourself influenced by TV commercials and magazine advertisements regarding the idea of personal attractiveness?

What assumptions do our typical views on attractive men and women suggest about our society?

Week 2 - Brent Staples

NOTE: Remember to post  your thoughts and at least two comments on  your peers' postings for full participation.

You may make any comments from Brent Staples' essay "Black Men and Public Space" pg 207 but here are some possible blogging beginnings:
1. After your reading of Brent Staples' essay "Black Men and Public Space" from the required readings this week, discuss your immediate reaction to this idea. 

2. In recent times, racial profiling - targeting people for investigation basd on their race or ethnicity - has become controversial.  What is your opinion?

Week 1 Langston Hughes

You may post an observation or a question or a disagreement, but you must post something relevant and something detailed. "I liked the story" is not detailed or specific.

To get you started for week 2, you'll be commenting on the following essay from our textbook: "Salvation" by Langston Hughes who was one of the foremost members of the 1920s literary movement known as the Harlem Renaissance.  What might the above picture of Langston be saying?
